Thomas N. Carruthers III is a Principal Owner and serves as President of Red Rock Realty Group. Tom began his real estate career in 1986 with Porter, White & Company where he worked for 16 years, gaining experience in investments, development, brokerage and industrial site selection. He formed Carruthers Real Estate Company in 2001 and, in partnership with Charles Robinson, acquired Property Managers, Inc. in 2007. Later in 2010, Tom and Charles merged their two companies into Red Rock Realty Group.
In 2011, Tom, Charles and two other commercial real estate executives acquired LAH Real Estate, the largest locally owned residential real estate company in Alabama. Red Rock Realty Group and LAH Real Estate are operated as separate entities.
Tom received an undergraduate degree in civil engineering from Princeton University in 1982 and then received his MBA in 1986 from the University of Virginia’s Darden School. Between college and graduate school, Tom worked in the engineering department for Southern Natural Gas Company. .
Tom is a CCIM designee and serves on the CCIM Alabama Chapter Board of Directors. He also serves on the Birmingham Commercial Realtors Council Board of Directors. In 2014, the Birmingham Business Journal honored Tom as the top CEO in the Small Business category.
In his spare time, Tom enjoys serving on various not-for-profit boards and volunteering his time with Rotary Club projects. He also enjoys backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, mountaineering, skiing and travel of any kind. Tom and his wife Brooke have two daughters, Scout and Neely.
