Norfolk Southern grants $25,000 to Alabama Trails Foundation in support of making the Pinhoti Trail a Safer Place

Norfolk Southern grants $25,000 to Alabama Trails Foundation in support of making the Pinhoti Trail a Safer Place

Alabama Trails Foundation is proud to announce it has received a $25,000 grant from Norfolk Southern through its Thriving Communities Grant Program. The funding will support the U.S. Highway 78 bridge crossing, helping to create a stronger trail system within Alabama by making the Pinhoti Trail crossing a safer place.

This grant is part of Norfolk Southern’s commitment to strengthening the communities it serves across its 22-state network. Launched in 2023, Norfolk Southern’s open-application grant programs are designed to support organizations working to further the areas of safety, sustainability, workforce development, and community resilience.

“A $25,000 grant from a corporate partner like Norfolk Southern is critical to the health of the trails in Alabama. This is an investment in the trail’s economic sustainability and our corporate partnerships. The Pinhoti is a major asset that connects our communities, boosts local economies, and expands outdoor access for all Alabamians. Corporate support ensures we can tackle essential projects to improve this world-class hiking destination for generations to come,” said Paul DeMarco, Alabama Trails Foundation President.

This project crosses multiple jurisdictions, including the U.S.D.A. Forest Service, Norfolk Southern, Alabama Department of Transportation, and Cleburne County. This grant helps the Alabama Trails Foundation ensure all aspects of the project are coordinated, and working for all of our partners. The project is still in the planning stages and comments are appreciated. Learn more about the project here: alabamatrailsfoundation.org/project-update/78-kickoff/

The Thriving Communities Grant Program supports initiatives that bolster local economies and promote long-term resilience. From sustainability efforts and job training to community-building programs, the grant empowers nonprofit and community organizations working to create lasting impact.
