The Flagg Mountain Observation Tower is officially reopened! Governor Kay Ivey opened the gates to the tower, officially closed since the late 1980’s. The 54 foot tall tower sits atop the first 1,000 foot mountain in the Appalachian Mountain chain, offering a gateway to all of the eastern United States. The tower was built in the 1930’s by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) to provide 360 degree views of the surroundings. The new 0.4 mile fully accessible paved trail leads to the top of the mountain and to the tower.
